Thanks to the leadership of Oregon U.S. Senator Ron Wyden and Ashland State Senator Dr. Alan Bates, Oregon could have its very own public option.
Under a provision authored by Senator Wyden in the recently-passed health insurance reform law, Oregon and other states can apply for a waiver of the required federal health insurance. This would allow these states to create their own health reform laws - even including a public option.
The potential reforms are being spearheaded by State Senator Bates, a physician who has fought for robust health insurance reform in Oregon for decades.
