Genentech, formerly a California biotech company, is coming to Oregon and bringing new jobs. Yesterday, Senator Ron Wyden attended the company's ribbon-cutting ceremony in Hillsboro and applauded the decision to move their biotech jobs to Oregon.
"I think today's announcement is exactly what the doctor ordered," Wyden said. "We're coming out of this economic downturn, Genentech is going to be part of the remedy. Congratulations to all of you who did so much to make it possible."
Senator Wyden has been a leader in securing federal funding for Oregon's startup biotech sector, especially to support projects that translate Oregon's strong scientific research base into commercial applications. Genentech executives said that they chose Oregon because of the state's favorable tax climate and well-educated local population.
