Ron Wyden: Different. Like Oregon.

Wyden then and now: standing up for Oregon seniors

Posted in Health Care Reform.

Throughout his career, Senator Ron Wyden has been a strong advocate for Oregon's seniors. His longtime work ranges from his first days leading Oregon Legal Services for the Elderly and co-founding the Oregon Gray Panthers, to just yesterday when he received an award from the American Academy of Homecare Physicians for his work on the "Independence at Home" (IAH) program.

Along with Congressman Ed Markey (D-MA), Senator Wyden wrote and worked to implement the "Independence at Home" program so our nation's seniors could more effectively manage their care in the privacy and comfort of their own homes. Passed as part of the landmark Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Senator Wyden is now fighting to ensure the IAH provisions are implemented as quickly as possible.

"Implementation of the [home care] program as soon as possible would appear to us to be clearly in the best interest of the frail, chronically-ill Medicare beneficiaries eligible to participate in the … program," wrote Senator Wyden and Congressman Markey in a joint letter to Marilyn Tavenner, the acting administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
