Ron Wyden: Different. Like Oregon.

Wyden fights, wins to close revolving door between oil industry and their regulators

Continuing his efforts to clean up Washington, yesterday Senator Ron Wyden fought and won in his effort to close the revolving door between big oil companies and their regulators at the Department of the Interior.

A senior member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Wyden joined Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) in authoring an amendment that will shut down the revolving door, expand the ban on lobbying to all former Interior Department employees that worked under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, and create tougher penalties for ethics violations.

Previously, Senator Wyden had grilled Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on the ways to end the pervasive "sweetheart relationships between industry and government." This week's amendment is the start of using that information to demand real accountability for the use of public lands.

Following that questioning, Senator Wyden took action and fought for change.
