I think you should know why the LWCF matters

Friends,

In government, there’s an acronym for everything. But here’s one you may not recognize: “LWCF.”

It stands for “Land and Water Conservation Fund,” and this year marks the 50 year anniversary of the program.

The LWCF is responsible for critical federal land acquisition and conservation projects, from trails to parks to hunting and recreation areas. It has supported work on Mt. Hood, in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area, in Upper Klamath Lake and much, much more, here in Oregon and around the country. The lands the LWCF supports also protect important water and watersheds. And for the families, farmers and small businesses that depend on clean water and the outdoors for their way of life, this is something we want to preserve.

But the LWCF faces a challenge to its authority this year and will not be effective if Congress doesn’t act.

The LWCF’s important work has enjoyed bipartisan support for years, so we can’t let this one slip through the cracks. I’m working to make sure this program continues to benefit Oregon and important outdoor projects across the country for years to come.

I hope to report back with good news soon. Stay with us!
