They really think this helps? Here's what we should really be doing.

Friends,

This week, the Supreme Court heard arguments over the Affordable Care Act in response to yet another challenge from right-wing conservatives.

The hope from the other side of this issue is that if they keep mounting challenges to the law – and it is the law – they’ll eventually find a thread that pulls the whole thing apart.

I know, it’s maddening. But it’s also fundamentally wrong.

Rather than tearing down a law that’s saving the lives of Americans, we should look to improve health care outcomes and make sure the most vulnerable in our country have access to care.

That starts with renewing the Children’s Health Insurance Program, also known as CHIP.

Thousands of kids in Oregon stand to lose their health care if Congress allows CHIP to expire this year. We need to stand strong and make sure that doesn’t happen.

It also means expanding coverage where we can. Right now, an effort is underway to create a special open enrollment period for women who find out they’re pregnant outside of an open enrollment period.

That means no expecting mothers will get locked out of health care and maternity coverage because of a technicality, and you can bet I’m on board.

This is what we need. Not fighting. Not tired partisan battles. Just working together and solving problems to make the system work better for all of us.

We’ll get there.
