Happy 157th!
Today, the State of Oregon turns 157 years old, and it’s never been better.
Oregon has always been a beautiful place, with dramatic coastline, lush forests, towering snow-capped volcanoes, and stunning high desert country.
But Oregon’s beauty goes beyond what nature endowed. Our people, our creative and independent spirit, and our firmly-rooted progressive values are what make our state truly unique.
Oregon’s future is bright and we are leading the way on many fronts. Last year, we became the first state with automatic voter registration, enacted universal paid sick time, and made universal background checks the law for all gun sales. Home-grown startups are creating jobs that didn’t exist a decade ago, and we are making important investments in a green energy economy.
We have plenty of challenges to overcome in Oregon, but we are on the right path. I’m so proud to call our state home.
Happy 157th Birthday, Oregon!
