Birth control and your boss

It’s hard to believe that access to birth control could be a controversial issue in 2016. We know that it isn't controversial for the majority of Americans – 62% of women of reproductive age are currently using some form of contraception.

Yet, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to weigh in on a case that could let employers strip birth control coverage from health insurance plans, coverage that is mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Churches and religious charities can already opt out of paying for such coverage, but this case goes further – the plaintiffs want all employers to have the final say over whether their workers have birth control coverage.

The case is called Zubik v. Burwell, and I recently filed an amicus brief with other members of Congress calling on the court to protect access to birth control.
