LISTEN: encryption and security
I had a great conversation on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud about smartphones, digital encryption, and our personal safety and security. I promise – it’s easy to understand and not at all technical.
The fight over encryption on your smartphone isn't about security vs. privacy. It's more security vs. less security.
Building back doors into our phones for the convenience of law enforcement means leaving us all vulnerable to hackers, stalkers, thieves, and even terrorists.
Our phones track every detail of our lives, sometimes including the real-time location of our children. Strong encryption is the only tool standing in the way of our private, personal information and those that would do us harm. That's why I'll keep fighting to make sure that no one gets a back door into your smartphone. No one.
