Right now, we are debating increasing spending for the Department of Defense in the U.S. Senate.

At more than half a trillion dollars, we spend more on defense than China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, the United Kingdom, India, and Germany – combined.

What does all that hard-earned money pay for? Here’s the problem: We don’t really know -- and what we do know is often troubling. Pentagon spending has never been audited, and it’s time for that to end.

I’m proposing an amendment to this year's defense bill that requires an audit of the Pentagon, to make sure taxpayers are getting what we pay for.
