Ron Wyden: Different. Like Oregon.

Building Oregon’s Innovation Economy

To create jobs and improve our standard of living, Oregon needs to seek out new industries and innovations to power our economy for the future. Ron Wyden has been a fierce advocate for providing the research hubs, financing and startup support to develop new areas of our economy and make Oregon a leader in new industries.

Ron has led the way on adopting smart technology policies that are letting us lead the way on innovation. He authored the 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act to drive investments into this growing field and is widely recognized as the leader in Congress on this. Wyden also authored the Internet Tax Freedom Act that creates a level playing field for products bought and sold over the internet. The Act has allowed online commerce to flourish as a major part of our economy and saved taxpayers billions of dollars.

Wyden’s support has been critical to making Oregon a core of research and development of nanotechnology and microelectronics. These efforts are already beginning to pay off. This year the homegrown startup, Homedialysis Plus, announced it had secured $50 million in private investment financing, building on the federal research investment dollars for the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute obtained by Ron Wyden.

Wyden was also instrumental to helping the city of The Dalles lay the technology groundwork to attract Google to the community. Working with local leaders, Wyden obtained federal funding to install the fiber-optic broadband loop that attracted Google to locate a facility in the Columbia River Gorge.
