Standing Up for Oregon’s Knife Makers
When the U.S. Customs department wanted to ban the import of certain types of imported knives as “switchblades”, setting the stage to prohibit their production domestically by the Oregon companies Gerber Legendary Blades, Kershaw (Kai), and Columbia River Knife and Tool, Ron Wyden took action. He pushed the Customs Department to delay their decision to accept more public input. And when the federal government refused, he wrote a new law to make sure that Oregon companies weren’t threatened.
