Stand Tall for Internet Radio
A recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board is expected to cause royalty payments for internet radio to skyrocket between 300% and 1200%.
When these new fees kick in on July 15, it will be the day that the music dies for many small internet music broadcasters - including college radio and public radio.
Senator Ron Wyden's Internet Radio Equality Act will ensure that online radio stations pay the same royalties as satellite radio stations (7.5% of revenues.)
If we do nothing, large webcasters will pay as much as 70% of revenues, while some small webcasters will literally pay more than they bring in, as much as 12 times more than their revenues - effectively ending internet radio.
