Our petition worked: the Pentagon is getting audited

Good news! 49,113 people joined you and signed our petition to audit the Pentagon and on Friday, the Department of Defense announced the first agency-wide financial audit in its history!

In September, the Pentagon escaped budget cuts — while Meals on Wheels and the National Parks budgets were slashed. The Senate voted to increase military spending by an extra $80 billion a year, resulting in a $700 billion Department of Defense budget.

I was one of only 8 members of the Senate who voted NO on this bill. Why? One of the reasons was because we don’t know where this money goes since the Pentagon has NEVER had an audit.

Together, we were able to hold the Pentagon and defense contractors accountable. Our next steps will be to make sure the audit they return is transparent and unmodified.

Stay tuned.
