This is serious. Our democracy depends on the security and integrity of our elections. The stream of revelations about the 2016 election has made it alarmingly clear that the U.S. is vulnerable to foreign and domestic election attacks.

We need to take steps now to ensure future elections are protected from interference.

I am calling on Congress to take these immediate steps to secure our elections:

• Audit elections to verify ballots;
• Require paper ballots (or paper receipts);
• Enact national vote-by-mail, following Oregon's example;
• Develop a national response to foreign attacks on our election system.
