What's next for health care and the Supreme Court

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing grieves me dearly, and I know that many others across America will be lighting candles in her memory for weeks, months, and years to come.

Her unparalleled conscience, compassion and leadership on the Supreme Court will be sorely missed.

And it's why many of us are deeply concerned about what comes next, with Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell's efforts to rush through another extreme right-wing Justice to fill her vacancy.

And it's why we have to take back the Senate to stem the tide of Trumpism here in America.

Nothing less than the future of health care for millions of Americans is at stake. Here's why: the Affordable Care Act will be up before the Supreme Court again in mid-November, and you'd better believe that McConnell and Trump would love to have someone in place by then to help them finally strip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and take health care away from millions of Americans.

Let me be clear: every single Senate Republican that votes in favor of Donald Trump's next Supreme Court nominee will be voting in favor of allowing the Court to rip health care away from families.

And given what we've already seen from McConnell and Trump, our health care is just the beginning.

Roe v. Wade? Progressive action on climate change? Challenges to decisions like Citizens United? It'll be open season on all the progress our country has made over the last 40 years. Every progressive law we pass will be challenged within an inch of its life, with the hope that a politicized, extremist Supreme Court would overturn them.

So it's why we need to stand together right now. To defeat Donald Trump, take back the Senate, and start moving our country back on a path to a better future for all of us.
