Illegal to give food and water?

Donald Trump and his allies are doing everything to ensure their biggest legacy is making it harder for Americans to vote and exercise their democratic rights.

After the 2020 election, Trump and friends lied over and over about a "stolen" election, about "fraud" and "wrongdoings."

Here's the truth: the 2020 election had the lowest rate of voter fraud our country has seen in recent history, all thanks to vote-by-mail. Republican lies about a stolen election were all to cover their push to make it harder for people to vote in the future.

Why? Because Republicans know that when more people vote, they lose.

Why? Because their ideas are outdated and out-of-touch.

In Georgia, for example, Republicans just passed a sweeping voter suppression law that is yet another continuation of Jim Crow. It's entirely aimed at making it harder for Black and Brown Americans to vote.

Part of that law even outlaws passing out water and food to would-be voters waiting in line.

Let me say that again: Republican lawmakers have outlawed giving another person a drink of water.

Trump's allies and supporters stormed the Capitol to attempt to overturn an election, but Georgia politicians are out to make life difficult for Americans peacefully exercising their constitutional right to vote.

Because that's what matters to this modern Republican party: doing every last thing to make voting difficult, even miserable. Closing polling places? Yep. Endless lines to vote in the few hours people have after work? You bet. Food and water for people stuck in these lines? That's a crime.

These are just a few of the reasons why I'm working so hard in Congress to pass ironclad protections for voters in response to the oppressive, racist laws being pushed by Republicans in states across the country. Because you can bet that Georgia won't be the last state where Republicans implement these arcane laws.

This isn't a democracy for one political party. It's for all of us.
