Trump would rather shoot the messenger than solve problems
Donald Trump’s policies have been a wrecking ball to our nation’s economy. Prices are rising, and as of last week, it turns out even hiring has slowed on the job market. But instead of owning up to the harm he’s inflicted on hard-working families, Trump is choosing to shoot the messenger, manipulate the facts, and gaslight the American people.
On Friday, we got a jobs report showing a massive downturn in hiring across the country. It was so bad that they even had to go back and revise job reports for the last two months to reflect even more losses.
This is an unmistakable referendum on the tariffs and economic policies Trump has implemented in the first seven months of his presidency, and the reckless cuts to the federal workforce his administration has made.
Trump’s response? He posted a long rant on social media accusing the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Commissioner of making up the data, *and then fired her.*

Commissioner McEntarfer is an honest public servant. She was confirmed by a big margin – then-Senator J.D. Vance was among the many Republicans who voted for her.
Accusing her of cooking the books – just because the facts are politically inconvenient – is cowardly and autocratic behavior.
The American people will have no reason to believe him the next time he touts a government report he likes. He’s rigging the system and cooking the books to try and convince the American people that his presidency is a success, when the reality is, his policies have wreaked havoc on our economy and will only continue to get worse.
His administration has broken the public trust time and time again, and our country’s going to suffer for it.
I’m going to fight like hell in the Senate to block any yes-man nominee to be confirmed as the next head of BLS. But it’s on Senate Republicans to stand up to Trump’s authoritarianism once and for all by rejecting what’s sure to be another lackey, hand-picked to rubber-stamp his agenda and whitewash the consequences.
Onward,
Ron
