Taking a wrecking ball to Oregon’s public schools
It's that time of year when families across Oregon are getting ready to send their kids back to school. And the Trump administration is determined to make this school year harder on everyone.
The Department of Education is withholding BILLIONS of already-appropriated money for public education, including nearly $75 million for Oregon. This is taxpayer money that:
- *Has already been passed by Congress *
- Oregon's school districts were supposed to receive by July 1.
I'm fighting to get the money our students and teachers are owed. I recently joined a coalition of Oregon representatives to demand answers from the Trump administration about these cuts and the consequences. We will continue to push for them to follow the law.
While the Trump administration doles out tax breaks and handouts to the ultra-wealthy and big corporations, families are left holding the bag. Trump will leave entire generations of Oregonians worse off as long as he can help his rich friends get richer.
Meanwhile, Trump's tariffs are driving up the cost of back-to-school necessities in addition to food and gas at a time when families are already having to make tough economic choices.
The academic year is fast approaching. It's time we all took a stand for our schools, so all students can be supported and successful in their education. And that's just what I'm doing.
Onward,
Ron
