Some thoughts on the events of this past week:

I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge the events of the last week.

Like many of you, I am left gravely concerned about the state of politics in our country.

Let me be very clear: political violence has no place in America.

Whether you agree with someone's political views and beliefs or not, I think we can all agree that one of the things that makes our country great is the right to speak and express ourselves freely without the fear of violence.

I denounce any and all political violence in the strongest of terms. I denounce anyone who would use the events of the last week as a pretense to stifle peaceful political debate, and I will always defend every American's right to free speech.

And know that as Oregon's senior senator, I remain committed to any and all work that helps to unify our country and give everyone a fair chance, not divide us further.
