The rot of Kristi Noem still runs deep

It's safe to say that Kristi Noem's tenure as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security was a disaster.

Kristi Noem used taxpayer dollars for her personal benefit. She funneled no-bid contracts to her friends. She helped oversee an alarming partnership between DHS and Silicon Valley that would use biometric data to spy on Americans. And she attempted to gaslight the public about the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, rushing to label them "domestic terrorists" when we all saw video evidence of what happened.

Kristi Noem's firing as head of the DHS was long overdue. But the grift, corruption, lying, and authoritarianism that marked her tenure are symptomatic of the entire Trump administration — and Trump is going to keep pushing the same horrific policies that Noem was carrying out on his orders.

The rot still runs deep. I won't let Trump turn the page from the failures that he owns just as much as Noem.

I've no doubt Trump may cycle out more officials as the controversies and crimes pile up. We owe it to the American people to bring all wrongdoing to light, hold public hearings, and when necessary, have trials. Because what's happened for the past year under folks like Noem must never be allowed to happen again.
