One year since a truly shameful moment for our country

Tomorrow will be our country's 250th birthday. It will also mark exactly one year since Trump signed the "One Big Beautiful Bill" into law.

It's hard to ignore the sad irony of a President choosing to honor our country's founding by signing legislation that put the American dream further out of reach for so many.

The bill — championed by Trump and rubber-stamped by Republicans in Congress — cut $1 trillion from Medicaid and will lead to 17 million people losing their health care (including up to 200,000 Oregonians), and sky-high health care costs for millions more.

It slashed nutritional assistance for up to 2 million kids.

It defunded Planned Parenthood.

It gutted new energy projects, contributing to skyrocketing energy costs.

This bill's passage was a terrible moment for America, and as we've felt its effects for the past year, it's clear that undoing the damage that Republicans have wrought will be a years-long project.

But we cannot give up. The basic ability for people to live healthy lives is worth fighting for. A clean energy economy is worth fighting for. A system in which working people are lifted up while billionaires pay their dues is worth fighting for. These are fundamentally American ideals, and 250 years on, America remains worth fighting for.

We have the power to make 2026 a referendum on the destructive Republican agenda. Taking back control of the House and Senate in November is the essential first step not only to restoring the progress Republicans have already rolled back, but taking bigger, bolder action than ever before to lower costs, make billionaires pay their fair share, and put the American dream back within reach for every American.

I'm lending every ounce of my efforts toward lifting up progressive champions, exposing the consequences of the Trump agenda, and driving the narrative for the vision we want to see made a reality. In recent months, we've made real headway in the fight to retake the Senate — and until November, it's all breaks, no gas, to ensure we build upon this momentum to flip the Senate.
