Instead of focusing on affordability, Trump’s focused on suppressing democracy
Trump's speech last night was disgraceful, dangerous, and absurdly out of touch.
Right now, Americans are worried about costs. Gas prices, grocery prices, energy prices — you name it. Families are worried about a seemingly endless war with Iran. Families are fearful of the unaccountable ICE agents continually endangering safety in our communities. Meanwhile, Trump wants to dredge up conspiracy theories about an election from 6 years ago.
2020's results have been scrutinized down to a micro level. They have been repeatedly litigated in court. It was a free and fair election, and any public official denying that basic fact is actively sowing chaos that leads our country down a dark path.
It's no surprise that Trump wants us focused on anything other than his failed, unpopular policies at home and abroad. What we're witnessing is a desperate ploy from a man who's repeatedly failed to bend our country to his will. No matter what illegal force or abuse of power Trump tries between now and Election Day to subvert democracy, we are stronger than him.
Trump is already doing everything in his power to rig the midterms, and now he's laying the groundwork to invalidate any results that don't go his way. The only election interference taking place is in the White House.
So here's my pledge:
- I will keep fighting to debunk the misinformation Trump's administration is spreading about "voter fraud"
- I will stand in full solidarity with my Democratic colleagues in the battleground states where Trump will try voter suppression tactics
- I will consistently share resources and opportunities with you about the best opportunities for fighting back
We will not — we cannot — be cowed in this moment. Our democracy will prevail, no matter what the wannabe dictator in the White House thinks.
