Social Security is earned; it’s not an “entitlement”

91 years ago today, FDR signed the Social Security Act. This codified a promise: that if you work hard, you will be able to retire with dignity — and your government will be there for you.

It is our duty to continue to uphold that promise. But Republicans see otherwise. They think Social Security is an "entitlement," not something people earn.

I was there when Republicans attempted to privatize Social Security more than 20 years ago. We stood strong and stopped them. But they never gave up.

Last year, when Republicans passed Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," they plundered $168 billion from Social Security funds, speeding up the date at which this program runs out of money to 2032. We have just a few years to act before Social Security runs out of money and Americans are no longer able to rely on the guarantee of retiring with dignity.

The Big Ugly Bill even included what amounts to a backdoor to privatize the program.

Trump's own Treasury Secretary agrees — and he bragged about it.

Politico Headline: Bessent hails new ‘Trump accounts’ as ‘backdoor for privatizing Social Security’

At every turn, Republicans are chipping away at this program and trying everything they can to privatize it.

We urgently need a Senate that won't rubber-stamp these schemes, and will actually get serious about protecting Social Security.

Candidates around the country need the resources to expose what Senate Republicans have done. I'm working to help them, but I can't do it alone.

So if you believe in protecting Social Security for another 91 years — and beyond — please chip in today to power our movement to flip the Senate >>

Onward,

Ron
