Stop border agents from warrantless searches

No one should be able to go through your photos or your text messages without a warrant.

But right now, U.S. border agents are flipping through Americans’ pictures and digging through our phones with complete disregard for our constitutional rights.

That’s why I’m introducing a bipartisan bill to require a warrant to search any American’s device at our borders. Border agents should focus on protecting us from the real threats of terrorism—not violating our Fourth Amendment rights to privacy.

Americans’ constitutional rights do not disappear at the border. A warrant should be required to search any American’s phone when they enter the U.S. after traveling abroad.

The Supreme Court has made it clear in past rulings that law enforcement must be required to get a warrant before looking through Americans’ phone, computer, email, and other data. My bill will ensure that our border agents know the law, and that they won’t be able to access Americans’ sensitive personal, financial and health data without a warrant.
