Paris Agreement: It's not over yet

Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement will set us back for generations to come.

I won't sugarcoat it. Trump's move is extremely damaging. Backing out of the Paris Climate Agreement will leave the American people sicker and poorer as we face devastating natural disasters, rising energy costs, and unpredictable weather patterns.

Our country made a commitment to be a leader in the fight against climate change – and now we’re backing out. Trump’s sending a dangerous signal to the world that we cannot be trusted to be at the global decision-making table.

But – and here's an important caveat – Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement cannot take effect until 2020.

That's why it's extremely important now for us to build a coalition that is committed to fighting climate change. To making sure that, regardless of Trump's reckless impulses, we have the firepower to combat it.
