Trump's war on democracy

For democracy to work, we have to make voting easy and accessible. But Donald Trump would rather strangle the life out of our democracy than protect voters’ rights.

That’s why Trump has appointed a new commission to investigate the “widespread voter fraud” that exists only in his head.

Who’s in charge of this commission? Let me introduce you to Kris Kobach:

By day, Kris Kobach is Kansas's Secretary of State -- by night, he's the leading promoter of some of the most anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, and blatantly unconstitutional policies of our time.

Kobach authored Arizona’s SB 1070 and Alabama’s HB 56 – the unconstitutional “show me your papers” laws that actually compel racial profiling by local law enforcement, with terrible implications for public health and safety.

He also drew up the blueprint for a federal “Muslim registry” while working for George W. Bush’s Department of Justice that was trumpeted by the Trump campaign.

And this is the guy Trump is putting in charge of “protecting” our democracy?

To protect our democracy, we should reduce the influence of big money and make sure everyone’s voice is heard.

Instead, Donald Trump and the GOP are waging a strategic war on voting rights. They’ll continue to target vulnerable groups for their own political gain at the expense of our country.
