But why? Americans deserve to know

Under a cloak of secrecy, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is making changes that could impact legal marijuana, criminal justice reform, and immigration policies.

But why?

Sessions has a long history of opposing laws and policies that would benefit people of color. Now, with Donald Trump’s guidance, he has created the “Department of Justice Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety”—and he’s indiscriminately making policy proposals based on the task force’s findings.

Yet, Trump and Sessions have declined to disclose the task force’s members, its meeting agendas, or its recommendations.

That leaves me with a lot of questions.

What did this task force find? Why is Sessions making policy changes without public input? What is this administration hiding?

No one knows.

Americans have a right to know what’s going on – and this administration has a rotten reputation when it comes to transparency about the motivations behind their policy shifts.

Sessions said in April that the task force would review marijuana policy, hate crimes, immigration enforcement, and sex trafficking. Policy shifts in how we handle these delicate issues could hugely impact the lives of Americans—not to mention any shift in marijuana policy could disregard the will of Oregon voters.

Sessions’ mysterious policy moves reflect some of the most dangerous aspects of the Trump administration, and we’ve got to stop them.

Let’s keep up the fight to get the truth from Sessions and Trump!
